Zugsptize, Germany

In January 2014, Drew and I headed down to Garmisch to go skiing! It was my first time skiing. I've gone snowboarding before, the first time I was pretty good at it, but the second time, not so great.

After our day on the slopes, we decided to head up to the tallest point in Germany, the Zugspitze. The Zugspitze is the highest peak of the Wetterstein Mountains as well as the highest mountain in Germany. It lies south of the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and the border between Germany and Austria runs over its western summit.

Today there are three normal routes to the summit: one from the Höllental valley to the northeast; another out of the Reintal valley to the southeast; and the third from the west over the Austrian Cirque.

We took the pups to the Granaiu train station, and bought tickets!

There are two ways to get to the Zugspitze, ride the train up (which takes about an hour) or take the Gondala up, which takes about 15 minutes. We chose to take the train up and ride the gondala down. Rylie and Seamus did amazing on the train. It was a little crowded, but the people were really great with them.

When we finally made it up to the Zugspitze, it was magical! It was literally a Winter Wonderland. You can even get a picture of you at the top, you press a button, while you're standing on the little feet, and smile up at the camera! It's pretty easy, and the button is right next to to where you're supposed to stand. You can purchase it at the gift shop, or just go on the Zugspitze website and save a digital copy for yourself. I did both. Our picture is on our fridge and I saved a copy. If you're saving a copy make sure you go on the day of, or the day after, hundreds of people go up and take their pictures, it could get pretty difficult if you go on a few days later.

 We walked around soaking in the beautiful scenery. I would love to see what it looks like in the summer time. But covered in snow, it was still amazing. You can even go skiing there!

I'd definitely suggest taking a trip up to the top. We did pay a pretty penny to get to the top, but at the end of the day it was worth it. Hopefully we will be able to go skiing up there this year!
