On our way home from picking up Drew's mom from the Frankfurt airport, we stopped off in Wurzburg to check out the famous Residence. The Residence Palace is one of Europe’s most renowned baroque castles and it is registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.
It was commissioned by the Prince-Bishop of Würzburg, Johann Philipp Franz von Schönborn and his brother Friedrich Carl von Schönborn in 1720, and completed in 1744. Interiors include the grand staircase, the chapel, and the grand salon. The building was dubbed the "nicest parsonage in Europe" by Napoleon. It was heavily damaged during World War II, and restoration has been in progress since 1945.
The Residence was constructed on a baseplate of 97 × 167 meters. It is arranged around several courts. On the side facing the town, there is a Cour d'honneur. The residence has almost 400 rooms. Most parts of the residence are occupied by a museum and organizations of the University of Würzburg.

Unfortunately, we just missed the last tour of the day, so we decided to walk around the gardens. It was well worth it! During the summer, the palace garden is decorated with ornate flowers, and perfectly groomed trees and bushes. So for that reason, I would also suggest going in the summer, when they have gardens "dressed up". Regardless of when you go, the outside of the palace is absolutely beautiful! I can just imagine what it would look like on in the inside!

From the pictures on google it looks like the inside would be beautiful! But for the most part, walking around the gardens and enjoying the view of the outside was enough for us. If you've got the time, I would definitely suggest checking out the inside!
